Biography

Dick Huey began his music career building the new media department at the Beggars Group from 1997-2002. He subsequently founded Toolshed in 2001, a NYC-based digital strategy, marketing, and music rights licensing service for consumer brands, media, tech, sports, and entertainment companies.

Toolshed has orchestrated digital campaigns for several hundred critically acclaimed artists and labels, including Arcade Fire, Sufjan Stevens, Indigo Girls, Ani DiFranco, MNDR, Matador Records, Touch and Go, Merge Records, and many others.

Huey led US independent label licensing and acquisition for Spotify prior to their launch in the US in 2011, and has also provided digital licensing and consulting services to Red Bull Music Radio, 8tracks, Digital Rights Agency, Red Mountain Resort, Jaxsta, Tunecore, and many others.

Huey is currently the interim Executive Director of the Future of Music Coalition, based in Washington DC. He is Head of Partnerships for the Australian official digital liner notes and attribution service Jaxsta, and a strategic digital consultant to the US independent record label Merge Records. He is a founding committee member of the American Association of Music (A2IM) new media committee, a past SoundExchange board member representing Matador Records from 2003-2012, and a past board member at CASH Music.
